Appellate practice seeks review of rulings made during lower court proceedings. To be an effective appellate advocate, a lawyer must closely review the record, properly identify the determinative legal issues, skillfully craft a persuasive written brief, and then present an effective oral argument to a panel of appellate judges. Since a limited amount of time is granted for oral argument, the attorney must make a condensed but persuasive argument to the court. Clear and persuasive writing and oral advocacy are paramount to effective appeals.
